Ingredients

 For the chocolate brownie
  • 85g butter or margarine
  • 2 teaspoons golden syrup
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla essence
  • 300g self raising flour
  • 100g castor sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate soda
  • 300ml boiling water

For the chocolate glaze

  • 100g plain dark chocolate
  • 3 tablespoons golden syrup
  • 3 tablespoons water

Method

For the brownie

  1. Mix the butter and sugar together.
  2. Add in the vanilla essence and golden syrup.
  3. Whisk in the boiling water and mix well.
  4. Add in the self raising flour, cocoa and bicarbonate of soda.
  5. Beat well to form a smooth batter.
  6. Bake in a deep greased oven proof tray for 55 minutes on 180 degrees.

For the chocolate glaze

  1. Melt the chocolate in the microwave on a high heat setting for 3 minutes or until melted.
  2. Alternatively place the chocolate in a bowl over a pot of boiling water and allow to melt completely.
  3. Add the golden syrup to the melted chocolate.
  4. Stir in the water to form a slightly liquid glaze.
