Baked beans curry is a spicy dish that can be served on its own or used as a topping for pizzas and nachos. It is also a perfect filling for sandwiches and tacos.


  • ½ onion, grated
  • Oil
  • 1 garlic clove, peeled and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon green pepper, grated
  • ½ teaspoon chilli powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin and coriander powder
  • A pinch of turmeric powder
  • 5 pods of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ginger and garlic paste
  • 2 tomatoes, grated
  • 5cm  green pepper,diced
  • ½ cup water
  • Salt to taste

½ a teaspoon of sugar
1 can of baked beans


  1. Heat the oil in a pot. Add in the onion, sliced garlic and grated green pepper.
  2. Fry well until the onions turn a light brown.
  3. Stir in the chilli powder, black pepper pods, turmeric powder, cumin and coriander powder.
  4. Add in the ginger and garlic paste. Fry the spice mixture for a minute.
  5. Combine the grated tomatoes, salt, sugar and diced green pepper.
  6. Add ½ a cup of water and mix well.
  7. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
  8. Stir in the baked beans and allow the curry to simmer for 2-3 minutes.

Serve hot as a main dish or as a side dish.
