The London Derby
This was the pick of the weekend, with West Ham beating Arsenal at the Emirates by 2 goals to nil. The player of the weekend for me thus far was the 16 year old youngster Reece Oxford who was given a chance to make his debut for West Ham. The new coach Slaven Bilic made a big decision to play Reece for this game, and a fantastic way to return the faith, compliments all round,
West Ham were brilliant on the day, squeezing the pitch by setting out the team formation to frustrate the Arsenal, and thereby making it difficult for Arsenal to engage in their free flowing style of football. This result was clearly an upset. Well done West Ham! Arsenal fans do not need to panic just yet as this is only the first game of the season. Will Arsenal still go on and win the league?
Liverpool get their revenge
The Stoke and Liverpool fixture concluded the weekend games with Liverpool sneaking a win thanks to an 86th minute cracking strike from Coutinho. Last year Liverpool lost this fixture 6- 1, so this win should settle the minds of the fans.
Brendon Rodgers the Liverpool coach will be happy with the side starting the season with a win. I believe the Liverpool coach will be under immense pressure this season to deliver a minimum return to the Liverpool board and the fans by finishing in the top 4.
The jury is out, the board has backed Rodgers in the transfer market this season, despite finishing poorly last year. Liverpool are the biggest spenders thus far, will he be the first coach to lose his job this season?
Welcome to the Premier League to the 3 promotion sides, from the Championship. Clearly, these sides will need time to adjust to the Premier league with Norwich, Bournemouth loosing and Watford holding on to a draw at Everton
The Transfer Window
With three weeks remaining for the summer transfer window to close, the British clubs have spent just under £500 million thus far aquiring new players. Ridiculous money, I know! We wait to see how your club will make improvements and who will come sign and who will leave, and at what price.
Will Arsenal sign Benzama from Real Madrid? And will Real Madrid sign the Manchester United goalkeeper De Gea?
Money bags Manchester City start their campaign on Monday evening. Having bought Raheem Sterling for £45 million, will this investment improve the squad. I don’t believe he is worth that big price tag. The Sunday papers reported that City have made an offer of £45 million for the services of Kevin De Bryn of Wolfsberg in Germany.
Watch this space, let us wait and see which team will splash the cash in the next three weeks.
